Frequently Asked Questions
What if a diamond I’m viewing doesn’t offer a video yet?
Not every diamond in our inventory has a video available at the time of listing. If you'd like to see a video of a specific stone before purchasing, simply contact our team, and we'll do our best to source one for you. For high-value diamonds, we always recommend requesting a video. We're happy to help.
Do you sell custom engagement ring settings?
Yes. At Precious Carbon, we offer fully custom engagement ring settings designed around your chosen diamond. You'll receive detailed CAD renders for approval before anything is crafted, so you can see exactly what your ring will look like before it's made, at no additional design fee.
Do you charge for insured shipping?
No. All orders from Precious Carbon include fully insured shipping at no extra cost. Your jewelry is protected from our workshop to your door.
What is the difference between platinum and white gold?
Platinum is a naturally white metal that stays white for life - it doesn't require replating and is denser and more durable than gold. White gold is yellow gold alloyed with white metals and coated in rhodium to achieve its bright white finish, though this coating may need refreshing over time. Platinum is typically the premium choice for engagement rings worn daily.
Rhodium: What is it used for?
Rhodium is a precious metal from the platinum family used to plate white gold jewelry. It gives white gold its bright, mirror-like finish and adds a protective layer that resists scratches and tarnish. Over time, rhodium plating can wear and may need to be reapplied, a simple, low-cost service available at most jewelers.
How can I find my ring size?
You can find your ring size using our free ring size guide on the website. We recommend measuring your finger at the end of the day when it's at its largest, and avoiding cold conditions when sizing. If you're unsure, our team can assist, and every Precious Carbon ring comes with a free resize after purchase, so there's no pressure to get it perfect the first time.
What is a laser inscription on the diamond and why is it important?
A laser inscription is a microscopic identification number engraved on the diamond's girdle (outer edge) using a precision laser. This number corresponds directly to your diamond's grading report from GIA or IGI. It's your proof of authenticity, confirming that the diamond you purchased is the exact stone in your ring.
How can I be sure the diamond I ordered is the same one I receive?
Every diamond we sell comes with a GIA or IGI grading report that includes a unique report number. If the diamond has a laser inscription, that number is also engraved directly on the stone. When your jewelry arrives, you can verify the inscription matches your report. This gives you complete confidence that the diamond you selected is the one you received.
Do you sell settings without a diamond from Precious Carbon?
Yes. If you already own a diamond or are purchasing one separately, we can craft a setting to your specifications. Contact our team to discuss your requirements, and we'll walk you through the options.
Are all diamonds listed on Precious Carbon certified with a grading report?
Yes. Every Lab Diamond & Natural Diamond listed on Precious Carbon comes with a grading report from either GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or IGI (International Gemological Institute), the two most trusted independent certification bodies in the industry. You'll have full documentation of your diamond's cut, color, clarity, and carat weight before you buy.
What kind of quality are the loose diamonds you have, and the diamonds in your jewelry and rings?
We stock a carefully curated selection of diamonds across a wide range of grades, from excellent everyday options to exceptional investment-quality stones. All diamonds, whether sold loose or set in jewelry, are certified by GIA or IGI. We don't list diamonds that don't meet our quality standards, so every stone you see on our site has passed a rigorous selection process.
How do I find out the status of my order?
Once your order is placed, you'll receive a confirmation email with your order details. When your order ships, you'll receive a tracking number so you can monitor delivery in real time. For custom or made-to-order pieces, our team will keep you updated at each stage of production. You can also reach out to us directly at any time for a status update.
What are the payment options available for purchasing?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. We also offer financing through Klarna, allowing you to split your purchase into manageable payments. For high-value orders, please contact us if you have any specific payment questions.
What is your refund or exchange policy?
We offer a hassle-free return and exchange policy. If you're not completely satisfied with your purchase, contact us within the return window, and we'll arrange an exchange or refund. Custom-designed pieces may have different terms, which our team will outline before production begins. Your satisfaction is our priority.
How do I check if I am pre-approved through Klarna?
You can check your Klarna pre-approval directly at checkout. Simply select Klarna as your payment method and follow the prompts. Klarna's pre-approval process is quick and doesn't affect your credit score. If you have questions about eligibility, you can also visit Klarna's website or contact their support directly.
If I need to change or cancel an order, how do I do that?
Contact us as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order. For standard orders, changes can typically be made before production begins. For custom or bespoke pieces already in production, we'll do our best to accommodate changes, though some stages of crafting may make modifications difficult. Reach out to our team immediately, and we'll find the best solution.
Do you deliver on Saturdays?
Delivery schedules depend on your carrier and location. Many of our shipping partners do offer Saturday delivery in select areas. Once your order ships, your tracking information will provide an accurate expected delivery date, including any weekend availability.
What countries do you deliver to?
Precious Carbon ships across the United States. For international inquiries, please contact our team, and we'll do our best to assist. Our sister stores, Rings of Australia and Rings of UK, serve the Australian and UK markets respectively.
Is it possible to deliver the order to a location other than the billing address?
Yes. During checkout, you can enter a separate shipping address that differs from your billing address. This is a common request, particularly for gifts and surprises.
How are all of your items available at such affordable prices?
We work directly with diamond suppliers and master craftsmen, cutting out the traditional retail middlemen. This direct model allows us to offer GIA and IGI-certified diamonds and meticulously crafted jewelry at prices typically 50-70% lower than high street retailers, without compromising on quality, certification, or craftsmanship.
How do I resize my Precious Carbon ring?
Every Precious Carbon ring comes with a complimentary resize. If your ring doesn't fit perfectly when it arrives, simply contact our team, and we'll arrange for the resize at no charge. We'll provide instructions on how to send your ring back safely, with fully insured return shipping.
What is the best way to keep my jewelry clean?
For regular maintenance, gently clean your jewelry using warm water, a small amount of mild dish soap, and a soft-bristle toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners for certain gemstones, and chlorine exposure. For a deeper clean, visit a local jeweler for a professional polish. We also recommend an annual professional inspection to check prong integrity.
What is comparison shopping? How can you help me choose the right diamond?
Comparison shopping means evaluating multiple diamonds side by side based on their cut, color, clarity, and carat weight, along with price, before making a decision. At Precious Carbon, our team of diamond specialists can walk you through our inventory, explain the trade-offs between different grades, and help you find the stone that delivers the best value for your budget and priorities. We offer free consultations and can prepare a shortlist of options tailored to what matters most to you.
